Free Energy Solar Power Has Powered Homes in the Past – What About Now?

Does anyone want any free energy? Solar power can do! This resource has powered homes for years and years, but has it evolved much over the decades? It used to be a fairly huge investment to “go solar” and rig up the entire house’s electricity feed by installing solar panels across the roof, and the energy output would maybe only be enough to power most or maybe all of the house’s appliances. Was it cost effective then, and is it any different now?

Back then, using the free energy solar panels could gather was cost effective in that a huge solar array did eventually pay for itself in time… after many years. These days however, things have gotten a little bit better. On one side of the coin, that of cost, developments in the production of solar cells and more efficient use of more economic materials has made investing into this kind of energy resource vastly more accessible to the public who wish to have solar powered homes. On the other side, that of energy, the energy output of photovoltaic cells (otherwise known as “solar panels”) today produce much more electricity than their forerunners of the mid ’70s.

Basically for these two reasons alone, many today are getting involved in making their own solar panels from cheaply acquired components, often spending less than a hundred dollars on the parts to build their own single solar panel, capable of running a TV, PC and a small refrigerator all on the one panel built as a weekend project. Now it’s even cheaper to tap into the free energy solar power can give us. Solar panels today have greatly improved since those that have powered homes in the past.
