How to Land Your Dream Job – Doing the Best Job Interview of Your Life

Have you ever wondered what it takes to perform amazingly at a job interview? Just answering questions isn’t

usually good enough, you need to come out with some outstanding, breathtaking answers that make your interviewers think,”Who is this person? They are the sort of person we need in this firm”.

It’s not actually that hard to move from a lacklustre, average performance to an amazing one, it just takes a few simple tips and tricks which will give you massive confidence, and astound your interviewers. In fact there are only a couple of simple steps required to provide that amazing answer. I’m going to give you a few tips and tricks which will help you perform well at future job interviews.

The common fear amongst most people when being interviewed is that the questions are so diverse that it’s really hard to train yourself for them and to make adequate preparations. This isn’t actually true. The types of questions and interview them I ask are actually very limited and can be broken down into these simple categories.

  1. Questions relating to your personality.
  2. Questions relating to your strengths and abilities.
  3. Questions relating to weaknesses and limitations you may have.
  4. Questions about your educational background and relevant experiences.
  5. Questions about your motivation for the position, and what motivates you.
  6. Questions about your work habits and ethics.

Once you actually identify the type of questions you’re being asked it makes answering them a hell of a lot easier. You can be pretty sure that most experienced interviewers will ask you questions from all of these categories, if not it’s likely that the interviewer is fairly inexperienced. That can work well for you, because after reading this you will know a lot more about interviews than a lot of the interviewers you will face.

Interviewers generally tend to ask questions in this order but be prepared for anything. The last thing you want to do is prepare for one type of scenario and find out that your interview is the complete opposite. But by practising for these six questions types you should be able to answer any question that’s thrown at you.

In all the interviews I’ve taken part in I found that the best way to deal with the question is this:

After the question has been asked pause for a moment before answering. This give you time to collect your thoughts and answer the question in a positive, not negative way.

Always tried to elaborate on the question and expand it with some real life experiences that you have encountered. This shows the interviewer that you have considered the question and are able to adapt it to include your own skills and attributes. This is far better than answering the question as minimally as possible, which leaves huge silences and can prove embarrassing.

This is just a basic idea of how I have answered interview questions as an interviewee, and what I look for in my role as an interviewer. So to finalise, consider the types of questions before your interview, consider how your previous experiences can assist you in answering them, and make sure that when you are at the interview you play a full role.
